Citizen Designations

Every citizen of Aetherion is identified by a nine-digit civic designation in three segments: cohort, sector, and sequence. The cohort prefix indicates civic class and registration era; the sector indicates the citizen's registered district; the sequence is the citizen's position within their cohort and sector.

Designations are reissued at significant civic life events — paired registration on marriage, elevation into the Ascendant class, and certain administrative reclassifications. Citizens may notice that married couples carry adjacent sequence numbers; this is by design, a small civic ritual reflecting the household's joint registration.

Citizens are not expected to memorize their own designation. The Echo carries it on their behalf; civic systems read it on their behalf; daily life rarely requires it. The designation is, like much of Aetherion's civic infrastructure, present in the way good infrastructure is present: invisibly.
